Your Child’s Learning and Development

Key Person
I work alone so I will be your child’s key person. My role as a key person is to ensure that the individual needs of your child’s learning and care are met. Building a positive relationship with the child and their parents enables me to support parents in their child’s learning and development at home. I will help families to access specialist support if required.

All About Me
When your child starts you will be asked to fill in an ‘all about me’ form. The purpose of the form is to provide me with important details of your child’s needs, like, dislikes, interests, routines etc. This will give me a starting point of getting to know your child and plan for their learning and development. Once a child has been with me a while the all about me form becomes out of date. Parent's can keep me updated by filling in the all about me section on Tapestry, updating it as required.

Learning Journal
I use Tapestry, a secure online learning journal. On Tapestry I can upload observations, photos and videos linking them in with the EYFS and characteristics of learning, to build up a record of your child's learning and development. Parents will be notified when an observation has been added and they can access their child's learning journal at any time and add comments. Parent's can also view their child's suggested next steps, any assessments and reports. Observations, photos and videos can also be added by parents. All together we will build a lovely journal showcasing your child’s learning and development journey.

Sharing Learning at Home
To link learning and development from my setting and home I will share ideas of activities that you can share with your child at home. I may provide an activity or a book to take home, there is a box library in the porch which you or your child are welcome to help themselves to. Parents are encouraged to add their own 'wow' moment observations, photos or videos from home onto Tapestry. Or I can provide parents with ‘wow’ slips so that you can record any ‘wow’ moments of your child’s development and learning. Just a short sentence is needed for example ‘Sarah did her zip up all by herself’. These will be added to the learning journal and I will use this information to aid me with my planning and assessments.

You will be added to a parent Whats App group where I will share a weekly update with photos and a description of what we have been up to. I regularly share posts of activities to our Helen's Home from Home Facebook and Instagram pages. I also welcome any private messages through a variety of media to instantly share any information or photos.
